This shirt features two bees wearing spooky costumes prominently displayed in the center of the wearer’s chest. As another outlet hilariously described it, “two bees in spooky attire,” with their visible stingers resembling nipples.

Janine Detore, the shop’s proprietor who created the shirt alongside her 19-year-old daughter, initially stated that the shirt was intended as a playful Halloween-themed garment. She elaborated on the pun in the design but speculated that some people may not have comprehended the joke.

Detore initially claimed that the shirts were a clever play on words. However, he later attempted to shift the narrative by stating that the store was trying to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In his words:

“A close friend of mine has a 17-year-old daughter battling breast cancer. She and other young people would appreciate a shirt with the slogan “BOO BEE,” promoting breast cancer awareness. It’s important to emphasize the importance of breast cancer awareness beyond just wearing a shirt.”

The tradition of trick-or-treating dates back to the 16th-century Dutch farming culture. After a long and hard summer working in the fields, farmers noticed bees gathering nectar from flowers. The farmers were inspired by the bees’ hardworking nature and decided to dress up as honey bees at the end of the harvest season. They then went door-to-door collecting sweets, marking the Halloween tradition’s beginning.

Before Halloween became popular, farmers devised a clever way to convince households to give them treats. They would play “tricks” on people who didn’t offer them sweets, by throwing rotten eggs and cabbage at their homes. This became a popular activity, and eventually, pumpkins were added to the tradition to represent the farmers’ successful harvest.

While the story about bees being associated with the origin of Halloween needs to be clarified, some Zombie bees (also known as Zombies) wander around at night in America. The Apocephalus Borealis, a small parasitic fly, used to prey on wasps and their parasites but has now switched to attacking honey bees. The fly swiftly lands on the back of a bee and implants its eggs inside. Once the eggs hatch, they consume the bee from within and eventually emerge after death.

If a larva consumes a bee, the bee becomes a host to parasites that can induce peculiar behavior. These affected bees venture out of the hive at night and aimlessly fly around in the light, potentially emitting sounds of distress. Bees typically only fly during daylight hours, so if you spot a honey bee flying at night, it could display zombie-like behavior.
